Voice chat

Voice chat maps the radio frequencies for the flight in progress. Only speak when you are tuned in to the right channel. See Frequencies to learn how frequencies are created.

Tuning in to a frequency

  1. Open the Voice view in the Windows client.
  2. Pick a frequency or a VA channel from the channel list.
  3. Click Tune in. The status changes to Tuned in as soon as the connection is up.
  4. Hold the push-to-talk key down while you speak.
  5. Click Leave once you no longer need the channel.

Which frequencies are available depends among other things on where you are. A connection that is already up stays up, even if the channel no longer appears in the nearby list the next time it is loaded.

Microphone and speakers

Before you start, check in the voice settings:

  • the right input device (microphone),
  • the right output device (headphones or speakers),
  • the input and output volume,
  • the push-to-talk key you configured.

Only transmit with the push-to-talk key held down. Make sure no music, private conversations or other unintended noise goes out over the air.

Taking the frequency into the simulator

If the simulator is connected and the selected frequency has a radio frequency, SetCOM1 tunes it into the simulator for you. VA channels have no COM1 frequency. If you dial COM1 in the cockpit to a frequency FSAirSync knows, the client tunes in to the matching channel automatically.

Radio discipline

  • Listen for a moment before you transmit.
  • Keep messages short and easy to understand.
  • Give way to other pilots on departure, on landing and in emergencies.
  • Use another suitable channel for anything not related to the flight.
  • If there is trouble: do not argue on the frequency, report it to the moderators.

Check before you transmit

Check the channel, the microphone and the push-to-talk key before you speak. That keeps a message from going out on the wrong frequency.
