Pilot rating

The pilot rating describes how a pilot behaves on the FSAirSync network. It is not a judgement of flying skill, and not a judgement of the person.

Viewing your own rating

  1. Open Pilot Rating in the Windows client.
  2. There you see your current value on a scale from 0.0 to 10.0.

How to read the scale:

  • 5.0 is the neutral starting value.
  • 10.0 is the best rating.
  • From 3.0 downwards the result is shown as critical.

The rating is recalculated on the server once a night and loaded with your profile when the client starts. A change is therefore not necessarily visible straight away.

Rating a pilot

Ratings are given in the traffic window:

  1. Find the pilot in the traffic list.
  2. Right-click their row.
  3. Choose ▲ Upvote or ▼ Downvote.

You can only rate pilots you have actually met on the network. The encounter also has to have been long enough and close enough to count as ratable.

A pilot's row can stay in the list as "out of range" after the encounter has ended. That leaves you time to rate the encounter without rushing.

Changing your vote

A vote you have cast can be changed within the period allowed for it. Right-click the same pilot again and choose the other direction.

When an action is greyed out, the tooltip gives the reason. Typical reasons are:

  • the encounter is not ratable yet, or was too long ago,
  • your account does not have enough flight time to rate yet,
  • the daily rating limit is reached,
  • the same pilot was rated recently already.

The exact limits can be set through the server settings.

How the rating comes about

The rating is made up of two parts:

  1. the votes of other pilots,
  2. a possible bonus for your own flight time.

Flight time can raise the rating, but never lower it. Several votes from the same rater are not counted more than once; what counts is their current vote.

Fair use

Rate behaviour on the network — consideration for others, radio and chat discipline, that sort of thing. Do not rate:

  • the aircraft somebody flies,
  • flying skill, or a single beginner's mistake,
  • the person behind the account,
  • whether you personally like them or not.

Beginners are expressly welcome. If someone breaks the rules or there is trouble, use the moderation channels provided as well, rather than treating the rating as a substitute for reporting it.
